Police have found an increasing number of vandalism near Vic street. There is also witnessed like student Tan Bee Wee from Block 3. He had recently witnessed people vandalising two months back and since then he had still remember the man's face. " He was tall, around 180cm, chinese man, was wearing a blue checkered shirt, a blue jeans and had a mole near his eyes" as he describe shyly.

We hope that people staying near the neighbourhood of Vic street would be able to co-operate with the police and keep a look out for this man. This way, it would help to make the neighbourhood to be a safer place.Quoted from CPL Lim, " We hope to seek the neighbourhood's co-operation and help us in our investigation, we as police force will also do our part by catching the suspect as fast as we could to ensure the safety of the residence in Vic Street and theis belongings."

Loan Shark Arrested!

Police arrested a 29-year-old man for loanshark harassment yesterday afternoon in the Redhill Close housing estate.

Since early November 2009, Police had received several reports of loanshark harassments in the Redhill Close housing estate. The modus operandi for these cases were usually paint splashed on walls and/or loanshark writings.

In response, police officers from Clementi Police Division intensified their patrols and conducted numerous stake-outs in the vicinity. Their efforts eventually paid off on 28 November 2009 at about 3.30 pm , when they spotted a man behaving suspiciously outside a unit. As the officers moved in to conduct a check on the subject, he fled down the stairs but was detained after a short chase. Loansharking-related paraphernalia such as marker pens and one paint can were found in his possession and subsequently seized as case exhibits.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 30 November 2009 for loanshark harassment under the Moneylenders' Act 2008.

First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment may be fined up to $40,000 or imprisoned for up to 3 years or both. They are also liable for caning if any damage was caused to any property, or harm caused to any person.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Ng Yeow Boon commended his officers for their perseverance and vigilance which resulted in the successful arrest of the suspect.

Loan shark runners arrested!

Police arrested two men aged 28 to 33 years old on 26 November 2009 for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 26 November 2009 at about 9.30 am , through enquiries and investigative probes, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division arrested the duo on suspicion of assisting in an unlicensed moneylending business. An ATM card and a stack of ATM transaction receipts were found on them and seized for investigation. Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects are debtors-turned-runners and had assisted the loansharks in their unlicensed moneylending business by carrying out transfers of monies via ATMs in order to offset their loans. Investigations are in progress.

First-time offenders found guilty of assisting in carrying on an unlicensed moneylending business may be fined up to $200,000/- or imprisoned up to two years or both.
